Year of establishment: 1837
Year of dissolution: Still active
History:
Music education institution founded in 1837 under the name of Liceu Filo-dramàtic de Barcelona from which the Gran Teatre del Liceu (1847-) stems. Even after the administrative separation of both institutions seven years after its creation, conservatory and theatre have maintained a relevant relationship, especially in providing performers for the theatre. Between 1847 and 1888, Marià Obiols was its director and was succeeded by composers such as Gabriel Balart (1889-1893), Joan Lamote de Grignon (1919-1931) and Pere Vallribera (1953-1982). Illustrious alumni of the institution include the sopranos Montserrat Caballé and Victòria dels Àngels.
