Francesc Laporta Mercader
Barcelona , 28 June 1857
Rubí , 25 August 1900

He started music lessons with his father in Santa Maria de Sants (Barcelona). Later, he studied piano, harmony and composition at Liceu Conservatory with Obiols and Rodoreda. He conducted the choral society El Porvenir de Sants (1876-1886) and appointed teacher at the Escola Municipal de Cecs I Sordmuts. Although he passed away at a young age, he had a large output that covers almost all ensembles, particularly choir, chamber, piano and religious music as well as zarzuelas and arrangements. He had Jaume Pahissa as his student. Important musical figures of the time paid tribute to the composer upon his death.
