Biography

Pianist and pedagogue. He studied in Barcelona with Joan Baptista Pujol. He continued his studies in Paris with Antoine François Marmontel in 1878 and in 1879, he made his debut at the Universal Exhibition of the same city. After his return to Barcelona, he began his career as concert pianist with a repertoire that he embraced from Scarlatti to the Romantic Germans and Chopin, as well as music by Catalan composers such as Albéniz, Alió and Rodríguez Alcántara. In his teaching career, he had Joaquim Nin and Robert Goberna as his students. In addition, he founded the Escola Musical Vidiella, where Lluís Millet and Enric Morera studied. He was a member of the Musical Association of Barcelona and president of the Society of Concerts of Barcelona. He also composed sporadically some music, such as Romança (1906) for piano. He is considered one of the founders of the modern piano school in Barcelona.
