Biography

Composer, violinist and conductor

He began his musical education with his father. Later, he studied at Escola Municipal de Barcelona under Millet, Morera and Toldrà. After winning the Perramon prize for young violinists (1929) he moved to Barcelona (1930). During that decade, he was part of Quartet Català, Pau Casals Orchestra and the Orquestra de Ràdio Associació. From 1944 he was concertino of the Orquestra Municipal de Barcelona (1944-1962), conductor of the National Radio Chamber Orchestra and assistant conductor of the Orquestra Ciutat de Barcelona (1962-1967). He also taught at the Conservatori Municipal de Barcelona (1969-1981) and published pedagogical texts. He composed orchestral music, soundtracks (many for animated films), as well as conducted recordings of zarzuelas for Odeón. He conducted the Orquesta Nacional de España and collaborated with Televisión Española. He also composed remarkable compositions for cobla including 29 sardanes.
