Biography

Composer and Conductor

He began his musical studies with J. M. Comella and F. Pujol and at the Escola Municipal de Música with J. Canals (piano), Lluís Millet and V.M. Gibert (counterpoint, fugue and organ). He devoted his career to the Orfeó Català where he started as a singer and continued as assistant professor, assistant conductor and finally conductor (succeeding F. Pujol in 1946 and up until 1977). As a conductor, he followed the footsteps of his father Lluís Millet. He conducted music by composers such as Bach, Beethoven, Haydn and Mendelssohn, as well as Poulenc. He premiered X. Montsalvatge’s Cant espiritual (1960) and M. Blancafort’s oratorium Verge Maria (1968). He was also Kapellmeister of Sant Felip Neri and professor of the Escola Municipal de Música of Barcelona. In addition, he composed choral works such as La reliquia (1946) and El año mil (1954).
