Biography

Clarinetist

Initially taught by his father, he studied at the Municipal Conservatory of Barcelona. Later, between 1976 and 1993, he taught at the same institution, as well as at the Conservatory of Terrassa. He founded the National Radio Chamber Orchestra of Spain in Barcelona (1949) and was clarinetist of the Orquestra Filharmònica of Barcelona (1948), the Quintet de Vent of Barcelona and the Conjunt Català de Música Contemporània. His interest in contemporary music drove him to be a founding member and conductor of Diabolus in Musica (1968-1987), a pioneering ensemble in the premiere of contemporary music. He established a longstanding collaboration with composers such as Xavier Benguerel and Joan Guinjoan.
