Biography

Composer

Most probably, he studied with Joan Castelló in Barcelona. In 1522 he joined the musical chapel of Lleida’s Cathedral. From 1544 he was the teacher of the Capilla Real of Castile at the service of the Infantes Doña María and Doña Juana in Arévalo. He mastered the ensalada, a polyphonic genre that combines elements of secular and sacred music. In his last years he joined the monastery of Poblet as a monk. His nephew Mateu Fletxa "el Jove" published, in 1581 in Prague, Las Ensaladas de Flecha. Ensaladas such as El Fuego or La Justa have been considered two of the most relevant pieces of Iberian music.
