Biography

Performer and composer

Although his family was from Torroella de Montgrí, he was born in Girona due to the Carlist Wars. He learned guitar from his father and from 1860, after moving to Barcelona, he studied with Josep Brocà.

He became a guitar teacher and photographer. In Paris, he taught at the Institut Rudy and the Académie Internationale de Musique, and developed an important performing career that gave him renown. Between 1898 and 1901, he was professor at the Liceu Conservatory of Barcelona but he never abandoned his academic and compositional activities. He had an extensive output of guitar music.
