Biography

Composer and conductor

He started his music education at the escolania of Lleida's Cathedral, and continued in Barcelona with Ramon Vilanova. He worked as a pianist in cafes and as a band musician in Reus and Barcelona. He was also Kapellmeister at Santa Maria de Jonqueres in Barcelona and a renowned composer of zarzuelas. He composed the opera Melusina (1848) with the text by Víctor Balaguer and the incidental music for L’esquella de la torratxa (1864) with text by Frederic Soler (also known as Serafí Pitarra), which he later composed as a zarzuela.
