Instrument Maker

Biography

Instrument maker

Member of a family of guitar makers, he moved to Barcelona to join Josep Messeguer's workshop as an apprentice. Between 1820 and 1835, he worked with the French luthier Thérèse de Mirecourt, who introduced him to the construction of violins. With the label España, he made guitars, bowed string instruments and pianos, all of which were highly appreciated. Given the number of instruments made by Espanya, it seems probable the workshop had many workers. In later years, he sold French instruments which he marketed under his own name.
