History:
Va ser una important sala de concerts de la ciutat, ubicada entre els carrers de Bertrallans i de la Canuda. A l’inici va ser un cinema, i a partir de 1912 l'empresa de pianos i pianoles Cussó SFHA la va llogar per a fer-hi concerts. Després d'una remodelació de l'arquitecte Francesc Solà i Gener, el març del 1914, a part dels concerts va acollir també actes d'altres entitats i conferències. Entre els intèrprets que hi van actuar, cal destacar personalitats internacionals com ara Arthur Rubinstein, Béla Bartók i Darius Milhaud, a més dels més destacats solistes catalans. En aquesta sala es van oferir, per primer cop a Barcelona, moltes obres del repertori clàssic de cambra, com ara la integral de quartets de Beethoven (1916) interpretada pel Quartet Renaixement liderat per Eduard Toldrà. També van estrenar-hi obres compositors com Frederic Mompou i Xavier Gols. Després de 1939 va acollir altres programacions, com pallassos, màgia i titelles. L'edifici va ser adquirit pel Centre Cultural i Recreatiu Aragonès. L’any 2003 va ser enderrocat.

Pianist and composer
He was a pupil of Joaquim Malats and Enric Granados, and began his musical career very early in his life. Specialized in chamber music, he accompanied prominent figures such as Gaspar Cassadó, Conxita Badia and the Italian tenor Tito Schipa. In Madrid he was the artistic director of the Sala Aeolian. In 1940 he founded the Albéniz Academy of Barcelona, which was later named after him. He moved to the United States and Chile where he resided until his death. He composed mostly works for voice and piano, which were recorded by the most renowned singers of the time. He also composed piano music and Gran Concert Espanyol for piano and orchestra, strongly influenced by the work of Isaac Albéniz.
