He began his musical education with his father, Salvador Sala, and continued with Josep Soler Ventura at the Escola Municipal of Barcelona. In 1904, he began his career as a soloist offering concerts in various parts of Europe such as Belgium, England and the Netherlands. In 1907, he was appointed professor of cello at the Escola Municipal de Música of Barcelona. In 1909, he settled in Paris and five years later, in the United States. He was an active member of the concerts promoted by the Associació Obrera de Concerts.
