Biography

Violinist and composer. He studied at the Escola Municipal de Música of Barcelona with Pellicer, Lamote and Nicolau. Thanks to a scholarship from the City Council of Barcelona, he then studied in Berlin with Joseph Joachim and Max Bruch. At fourteen, he offered concerts in several cities in South America, and later toured the USA and Cuba. In 1915 he debuted at the Palau de la Música Catalana. Between 1921 and 1925 he lived in Mexico where he founded an orchestra and was a professor at the National Music School of Mexico. In 1926, he settled in Paris and in 1929 returned to Barcelona. There, he organized the Ibero-American Symphonic Music Festival of the World’s Fair, with the participation of figures such as Heitor Villa-Lobos. In 1931 he offered monographic concerts at the Teatre Barcelona. At the end of the Spanish Civil War, he moved to Portugal. He composed Majas, possibly premiered at the Gran Teatre del Liceu and the Teatro Real, and the symphonic work Poema de Occidente, based on the appearances of the Virgin of Fatima. He also composed piano music and violin arrangements.
