Biography

Flamenco guitarist

He started as a self-taught guitarist, performing at cafés cantantes in Madrid. Later, after moving to Barcelona in 1901, he studied with Francesc Tàrrega and added some elements of the classical school to his technique. He formed a flamenco ensemble with his children, which recorded music and accompanied renowned cantaores of the time. He has been considered the founder of the Catalan school of flamenco guitar, transmitting his brilliant performance technique to many renowned guitarists and particularly to his son Miguel.
