Biography

Organist and composer

Campderrós possibly studied in Barcelona and emigrated to Callao (Peru) as a merchant in 1775. In Lima he was involved in sereval music activities until in 1793, he was appointed Kapellmeister of the Cathedral in Santiago de Chile, succeeding Francisco Antonio Silva. In this cathedral, eighty-five compositions have survived, mainly sacred music. He has been considered the most important composer of colonial Chile.
