He was blind from the age of seven, which led to study music. He studied at the Conservatory of Valencia and later at the École Normale de Musique in Paris, with Paul Dukas. He was in contact with prominent figures of the French and European music world. He furthered his studies and worked in various European countries before returning to Spain and settling in Madrid. The premiere of the Concierto de Aranjuez in 1940 gave him notorious popularity worldwide. His extensive output followed the postulates of neoclassicism and shows Rogrigo’s personal style. His music achieved great success among the public and he was recognized with the Premio Nacional de Música (1991) and the Premio Príncipe de Asturias (1996).
