Biography

Pianist, pedagogue, musicologist and composer

Born in Cuba, he moved to Barcelona where he studied with Carles G. Vidiella and Felip Pedrell. He studied composition with Vincent d'Indy at the Schola Cantorum, where he would later teach.

He taught at the Université nouvelle de Bruxelles and developed an important career as a pianist. He moved to Havana where he founded a conservatory and a concert society. He composed notable works such as the Méssage à Claude Debussy (1929) for piano, songs and the ballet L'écharpe bleue (1937). He made editions and transcriptions of Hispanic musical heritage. He is the author of the books Pour l'art (1909) and Idées et commentaires (1912).
