Biography

Musicologist

Began his music education with his uncle. He entered the Escolania de Montserrat where he studied with Manuel Guzmán and Ramir Escofet. From 1913, he received religious education. He studied music with Josep Barberà (harmony), Vicenç Maria Gibert (counterpoint and fugue) and Gregori Maria Sunyol (plain chant). He succeeded Fr. Anselm Ferrer as director of the Escolania, in the periods between 1933-1936 and 1939-1949 and was himself succeeded by Ireneu Segarra.

He studied the output of composers the Escola de Montserrat and published some volumes of Mestres de l'Escolania de Montserrat. He was the founder of the the publication Música Sacra Española and taught at the Pontificio Istituto di Musica Sacra in Rome.
