    History:
Cultural association founded in 1860 under the name of Ateneu Català. It has been an important meeting place for prominent figures of Catalan culture such as Àngel Guimerà, Joan Maragall, Pompeu Fabra and Lluís Domènech i Montaner. The Ateneu soon had - in addition to an important library - a music department that promoted musical premieres. Composers such as Felip Pedrell, Eduard Toldrà and Josep Rodoreda were members of the association and it was a meeting place for Independent Composers of Catalonia. To date, it has kept a programme of concerts with a special focus in the Catalan musical heritage.
