Biography

He was baptized under the first name Genís. Around 1736, he entered the Escolania de Montserrat where he was a disciple of Benet Esteve and had Antoni Soler as his fellow student. In 1745 he entered the same monastery as a monk and from 1754, he was appointed organist of the abbey. For about three years, between the passing of Josep Martí and the appointment of Anselm Viola, he took care of the direction of the Escolania.

His output shows his knowledge of both the old polyphonic style and the new melodic findings from the Italian style. Although most of his work was written for harpsichord and organ, he also composed a Missa de difunts and a Miserere for two choirs and orchestra.
